President Xi Jinping Speaks on Journalism in China

President Xi Jinping has once again highlighted the duty of journalists, urging them to work in accordance with the principles of the Communist Party. He made the comment ahead during a major journalism award.

While addressing the All-China Journalists' Association (ACJA), Xi expounded further on the qualities one needs to have to be awarded.
According to Xinhua News Agency, President Xi explained that journalists are to "follow the correct political direction, adhere to the Marxist view of journalism, stick to the position of the party and the people and uphold socialism with Chinese characteristics."
In his remarks, he encouraged journalists to practice professionalism while at work.
"Media professionals should work hard to promote the parties operation, Chinese people's hard work and achievements, mainstream values and "positive energy," said Xi.
He also mentioned the need for an open environment for public opinion. President Xi said that it is a necessity for both the government and the nation.
Xi has made news over and over again for his interest in the field of journalism. A great example is when he gave a mandate for all media outlets in the country to have a "surnamed party." The Chinese leader said he believes that this will aid in delivering proper guidance on matters public opinion through "singing the main theme, transmitting positive energy."
Around mid this year, authorities cracked down on some major online news companies that were declared to be breaking the law. They were ordered to report only what state-owned media outlets reported.
