The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had registered the 34-year-old Kuala Lumpur-based multi-titled player for both China and Hong Kong Open. However, Lee has revealed in a public event on Tuesday that he is also uncertain of taking part in the Hong Kong Open.

"I am not sure if I'll play in Hong Kong Open yet, it all depends on my injury and how I feel about my condition," said Lee. "I'll spend the next two weeks to observe my recovery process. After all, the most important event of the year - the Olympics, has already ended, I am putting more focused on next year's schedule."

Last month, Lee suffered a quarterfinal round downfall against Brice Leverdez of France at the Yonex Denmark Open due to a hamstring injury. The Malaysian player also, later on, withdrew from the recently concluded Yonex French Open after failing to recover from the said injury.

Lee remains on top of the world rankings, and based on figures taken from the official website of the BWF, he has a total of 93,503 ranking points with a sizeable lead of 16,639 points over China's current world No. 2 Chen Long, who has 76,864 ranking points under his name.

Lee recently claimed the Yonex Japan Open title in September after beating Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in three sets.
