With the victory, the Sharks kept hold of the top of the team standings, winning all of the five matches they played since the start of the season. They share the No. 1 spot with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, who also have a 5-0 win-loss record.

Chinese basketball superstar Yi Jianlian paced the Southern Tigers with 28 points and nine rebounds while former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer finished the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was the third loss of the team in the last five games played and currently sits on the 14th spot in the league's table.

The Sharks will be facing the Shenzhen New Century Leopards in the next round of the Chinese basketball league on Sunday. Shenzhen lost their most recent game to the last season runners-up Liaoning Flying Leopards with an 113-109 defeat.

The Sharks, who are on a quest to win another championship title, recently claimed the 2016 Merlion Cup in September in Kallang, Singapore. The Pudong Yuanshen Gymnasium-homed basketball squad has not won a CBA crown since 2002.
