"Nearly 90,000 people have been affected by the weather and damaged hundreds of houses," explained authorities in the region. "There have been forced a relocation of three dozen people forced to stay elsewhere as well as the damage of 274 hectares of land and completely destroyed 51 hectares."

The region's power supply has been heavily affected, according to an early estimate by the State Grip Corporation of China.

The information presented by the organization showed the snow had wrecked 63 voltage transformers and ruined 9,000 electric poles among other facilities.

As of Friday, thousands of rescue operations were ongoing as authorities tried to restore power back to the region.

Major roads in the regions have been closed and flights being canceled. Areas surrounding the region have also experienced similar problems.

The snow, however, has begun to turn into a drizzle. Thus far, no information has been released about the number of lives lost or those injured.

A similar snow storm occurred in 2009 in the Northcentral region of China. The 2009 incident resulted in the death of 40 people and led to the destruction of thousands of buildings as well as hundreds of thousands of winter crops.
