China's President Xi Jinping tried to warm up relation with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday through a phone call diplomacy. Xi told trump that "cooperation" was the only choice for both countries, Chinese state media reported.

"The facts prove that cooperation is the only correct choice for China and the United States," China's state broadcaster Central Television (CCTV) cited Xi telling Trump.

Xi reportedly urged on the phone call that both countries must work towards both countries economic development and also for global economic growth while enhancing cooperation in all areas to ensure that citizens of both countries receive more tangible benefits and to keep pushing for better development in bilateral relationship.

Trump responded to Xi by saying that he is willing to work to further consolidate the bilateral relationship and reaffirmed his belief that bilateral relation can "definitely achieve greater development," CCTV claimed.

CCTV also said that both leaders promised to meet soon and maintain close communication to exchange views on important concerns.

Monday's phone call is likely to help in easing the tension built up by Trump's huge anti-Chinese rhetoric during U.S election campaign. Trump made China one of the central focus during several election rallies, accusing China of stealing jobs and resorting to economic wrongdoing by dumping cheap steel in the US and manipulating its local currency.

Trump's unexpected victory last week has left most leaders and critics completely stunned. The Republican presidential nominee ran a campaign that was believed to be high on nationalistic jingoism and popularism. His campaign made him a high controversial and polarizing figure across the world.
