Veteran boxing promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank said that the recently concluded comeback fight of the eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao against Jessie Vargas last Nov. 5 was a pay-per-view success.
Arum, who took a bit of a gamble when he struck out on his own to put on the Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas even without the support of the giant American cable company HBO, told ESPN that the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world title fight generated "around 300,000, probably a little more" pay-per-view buys.

The seasoned Top Rank CEO also said that Pacquiao's most recent fight did about the same as boxing future Hall of Famer's third matchup against Timothy Bradley last April, which was produced and distributed by HBO.
Although he did not have the precise figures yet for the Pacquiao-Vargas pay-per-view sales, the 84-year-old lawyer said that they are delighted with outcome of the event, which was held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"The numbers are still coming in and we're pleased," the International Boxing Hall of Famer said.
"We had a good show, we put on some entertaining fights, and we made money, the fighters made money, so that's good," Arum, who previously told that an 180,000 pay-per-view buys will be good enough for the fight to reach a break even, added.
Pacquiao, who is now a member of the Philippine senate, came out of a brief retirement following his victory over Timothy Bradley seven months ago. The Filipino boxing legend easily outpointed Vargas and scored an impressive unanimous decision triumph over the American boxer and reclaimed the WBO welterweight title.
With the recent success on the ring of Arum's prized fighter, speculations of a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao arise. However, in a report of the USA Today, Arum said he has no conversations with the Mayweather side yet, but he is confident the fight would be better if it happens.
