The record for the shortest couple worldwide has officially been set after Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros and Katyucia Lie Hoshino officially tied the knot on Thursday in London.

In a fun-filled event at the London Headquarters for the Guinness World Records at the World Records Day 2016, the Brazilian couple was not only made husband and wife but also the world record holders for the shortest couple with a combined height of 181.41 cm, according to the World Record website.

Barros, 31, has a height of 90.28 cm and his wife Hoshino, 28, is almost 1 cm taller than her husband standing at 91.13 cm.

The couple met eight years ago through the no longer functioning social media platform, Orkut. He patiently waited for years until August this year when he proposed to his then girlfriend.

During the event, Barros explained that from the moment he first saw her, he had his mindset on whom and what he wanted. Hoshino, on the other hand, was reluctant at first and even blocked him for some time on the online platform.

Not one to hide their joy, the new record holders for the World's Shortest Couple are optimistic about the outcome of their special occasion.

"We are so happy to be a part of Guinness World Records Day, and have our unique record celebrated," Hoshino said. "We hope our new record will encourage the world to look past the physical differences in others and understand all people should be treated equally."

Barros is a local civil servant of his government, while Hoshino owns a beauty salon. Together, they believe they are stronger in fighting off the attention they get from being short.
