China unveiled a 712-kilometer quantum communication line on Monday with a solo objective of safely transmitting sensitive information across the country. The line has been touted as the world's longest quantum communication line and hailed as another feather in the cap of country's quest for technological advancement.

The 712-kilometer quantum communication line basically connects Hefei and Shanghai cities and will be further expanded to 2,000 kilometers to include the capital city of Beijing under the project.

During Monday's trail run, a video conference was securely transmitted between Hefei and Shanghai cities. The line that has 11 stations was under construction for three years and construction will further continue until the end of the project. After it is completed, the line will have a total of 32 relay points.

The entire project was initially expected to be completed by November, but now, the deadline has been moved to the end of the year.

The quantum communication line makes use of quantum entanglement of photons to ensure that no one intercepts or cracks the information.

The Shanghai-Beijing line will eventually be connected to a quantum satellite that was launched in August. The launch of this satellite was hailed as a watershed moment for the Chinese space program, as it was the world's first quantum satellite.

The entire quantum project marks China's quest to become a technological advance country, on par with technically advanced western countries. The quest has propelled Chinese government to pump in billions of dollars into its ambitious space programs, resulting in a successful launch of several satellites and unmanned missions.
