Foreign Mister Wang Yi said that China stands firm on its position to oppose the use of chemical weapons by any country and takes a very serious view of such an action in Syria.

Interviewed by state-owned Xinhua News Agency, Wang said China supports the UN in conducting an independent and fair investigation on the Syria incident to determine the truth as soon as possible.

Political Resolution is the Only Way Out

Wang also said that striking Syria will not resolve the existing issue instead a second Geneva conference must be convened to discuss Syria at an early date. He said a political resolution continues to be the only way out.

At least 1,300 people died in alleged chemical weapons attack in the suburbs of Damascus this week. The opposition group claimed it was the Syrian government that staged the chemical weapons attack but the government has denied the allegation.

The Syrian government announced that it will cooperate with any on-site investigation and promised to hold off hostilities in locations identified by investigators.

US Holds Off Strikes

United States President Barack Obama has earlier warned that his government could conduct air strikes in Syria following the chemical weapons attack allegedly staged by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

But China warned against military intervention in the said country and urged that an investigation must first be conducted by UN experts before any UN Security Council action.

In a surprising move, President Obama announced on Saturday that he will postpone the missile strikes against Syria, saying he would first seek the approval from the US Congress before taking any action against the regime of Al-Assad.

But the US President said it remains his right to conduct strikes in Syria regardless of the decision of Congress. Analysts said the postponement of Obama's planned strike can even build more global support for such decision.
