Residents of a village in Central China are up in arms due to its leaders' ostentatious infrastructure spending. A committee in the village of Baoji, Shaanxi province that oversees the approval of infrastructures are receiving numerous complaints to its new office building worth 1 million yuan while still having outstanding debts from the construction of its previous office building six years ago.

The previous office is a simple house with nice decorations in the village, while the new one is a two-storey building 800 meters away from the old office. According to residents, the old office was enough to house the cadres working there, calling the move to the new office "unnecessary."

A town government official defended the decision, saying that the roof of the old office was leaking and the general environment was no longer conducive to working. The official added that the new building was funded by a local contractor and not by the people's money. There was also no deadline for the payment to the said contractor.

One of the men who built the old office said that he hasn't received his full payment yet. He has only received 190,000 yuan from the village committee. He is still waiting for the remaining 300,000 yuan.

According to the town official, the worker agreed to receive the payment in several instalments after the construction is done.
