Chinese Basketball Association: Liaoning Flying Leopards Top Sichuan Blue Whales in First Meeting of the Season

The Liaoning Flying Leopards continued their impressive game performance during the last round of the Chinese league after defeating the defending champions Sichuan Blue Whales with a 99-91 victory in the 10th round of the 22nd season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Wednesday night.

According to EuroBasket, former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Lester Hudson led the last season's runner-ups with game-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals to its eighth victory of the new season. The two-time Foreign CBA MVP went 7 for 22 from the field but made seven of the eight free throws that were awarded to him during the game.
Chinese hotshot Guo Ailun finished the match with 23 points, while former NBA player Shavlik Randolph added with a double-double game production of 19 points and team-high 12 rebounds for the Flying Leopards, who outrebounded the opposing team with a 49-40 advantage.
The Blue Whales were paced by their 17-year-old Chinese guard Rongqi Huang, who dropped team-high 23 markers and pulled down 13 rebounds. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the losing side.
The victory was the second straight triumph of the Joaquin Ruiz-headed ball squad since suffering their second loss of the season against Shanghai in the eighth round of the Chinese league last Friday. The Flying Leopards now currently stands with a better 8-2 win-loss record, a half game behind current table leaders Shanghai Sharks and Guangsha Lions, who both own an 8-1 win-loss card.
Basing from the game result in the website of NowGoal, the winning team had a strong opening quarter capping the first 12 minutes of the ballgame with a 24-17 run. However, Sichuan was able to regroup and staged a 25-17 second quarter outburst to lead by a single point at the half 42-41.
The Blue Whales continued to pound Liaoning and stretched their lead to four 72-68 during the third frame. But in the fourth quarter, the Flying Leopards launched a 31-19 run to seal the win.
