Henderson was born on Feb. 14, 1934 in the town of Dale, southern Indiana. Her father was a tobacco sharecropper of Irish descent. She would later return to Indiana at 23 years of age to sing at running of the Indianapolis 500.

After her high school years, Florence moved to New York City, where she joined a two-year study program held at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, which was funded by a couple who loved her voice and performances back in high school.

Henderson started her great career as early as 19 years old when she was still a drama student in New York City where she landed a one-line role in a play. In 1965,  Henderson conducted a corrective surgery as an effort to restore her hearing loss that was caused by hereditary effects.

After making her movie debut in the 1970 song "Norway," her TV career continually blossomed as more people loved her talent. Her fame grew that she became the first woman to host "The Tonight Show" when Johnny Carson was on vacation.

According to CNN, up to her recent death, Henderson has had five grandchildren. Her first husband was a theater executive named Ira Bernstein. This union, however, ended 29 years later after having four children. Her second husband died back in 2002.

Having entertained masses for ages, the beloved star will surely be missed. Among the projects she did or became a part of include spinoffs and reunion specials like the 1981's "The Brady Brides," "Fuller House-style," the 1995 spoof "The Brady Bunch Movie," and 1977's "The Brady Bunch Hour," just to name a few.
