Hugo Barra, is said to be one of the most notable executives to be welcomed to a mobile telephone company in China, that's according to analysts. During his stint with his previous company, he was the vice president for the production team taking care of the Android mobile operating system. Majority of all smartphones in China are using Android as its operating system.
Pete Cunningham, analyst from research firm Canalys said that Barra was a substantial character in the industry, also an important character at Google. The move highlights the trend that they are observing in the market that vendors from China will play a major role in building the future of the mobile phone industry.
Xiaomi is currently one of the several Chinese smartphone brands that have experienced an increase in popularity in the country compared to foreign brands like Nokia and Apple. In the past, Chinese mobile phone makers have been content with their steady increase in sales in the country, however, companies like Lenovo, Huawei, and Xiaomi are the ones who are displaying more aggressiveness in terms of expanding globally.
Reports from Canalys reveal that Xiaomi has been controlling only five percent of the market in the country in quarter two this year. Those figures are trailing behind South Korea's Samsung Electronics which is enjoying 18 percent, but the brand is a little ahead of Apple which only got 4.8 percent of the market share.
Barra posted a statement in Google Plus that he wants to help Xiaomi in expanding their product and business in a more global scale. Already, he is looking forward to the challenge, and is excited about the opportunity.
