Badminton: PV Sindhu of India Jumps to the 7th Spot in the Latest BWF World Rankings

Indian badminton sensation PV Sindhu improves her position in the latest world ranking result of the sport's governing body, the Badminton World Federation (BWF), with considerable changes in the top three spots of the women's singles category.
The reigning Thaihot China Open champion moves two spots above from previously being the ninth top-ranked female shuttler in the federation to the seventh-highest rated women's singles badminton player in the planet. Sindhu surpasses Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Li Xuerui of China, who currently rank No. 9 and No. 8 in the world, respectively, basing from the official website of the BWF.

Sindhu, who took the silver medal in the last Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and most recently ended as a tournament runner-up in the last week's Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships, has garnered a total of 68,699 ranking points in 19 competitions she took part this season.
The Indian badminton ace is just 293 ranking points behind current world No. 6 Sun Yu of China and 377 points at the back of South Korean world No. 5 Sung Ji Hyun, who presently has a total of 69,076 points. Sindhu also now has a career win-loss record of 200-90.
According to The Times of India, with her recent badminton success, the 21-year-old two-time World Championship bronze medalist has now assured herself of a spot in the season-ending BWF World Superseries Finals that will take place in the modern city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from Dec. 14 to 18. Sindhu made it to the final cut as the eighth player in the final list of the prestigious USD 1 million badminton event.
Meanwhile, Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei is now the new women's singles world No. 1. The 21-year old Taiwanese surpasses the reigning Rio Olympics champion Carolina Marin of Spain in the top spot of the rankings.
Tai reaches the semifinals of the China Open and recently defeated Sindhu in the championship round of the Hong Kong Open.
