Badminton: Chinese Players Dominate the Semifinal Round of the BWF Macau Open

(Photo : Getty Images) Chinese pair of Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui defeated the tournament’s fourth seed Lee Chun Hei and Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong in the mixed doubles’ semifinal round.

Chinese shuttlers dominated the semifinal round of the ongoing 2016 BWF Macau Badminton Open that is being held at the Tap Seac Multisports Pavilion in Macau, China, on Saturday.

According to the match results in the official website of the BWF, China, which is considered to be a major powerhouse in the sport of badminton, had a representative in all of the five events of the USD 120,000 Grand Prix Gold tournament, with Chen Yufei and Chen Xiaoxin setting up an all-Chinese showdown in the final round of the women's singles event.

The unseeded Chinese pair of Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui defeated the tourney's fourth seed Lee Chun Hei and Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong in the mixed doubles' semifinal round to book a championship matchup against the seventh seeded pair of Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet.

World No. 125 Zhao Jun Peng ousted Tzu Wei Wang of the Chinese Taipei in their final four battle and will be facing the men's singles top seed and current world No. 8 Chou Tien Chen, who is also from the Chinese Taipei, in the finals. The 20-year-old Chinese player only dropped one set on his way to the final round of the competition.

In the women's doubles, the top seed pair of Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan will be playing the Indonesian combination of Anggia Shi Awanda and Mahadewi Istereni Ni Ketut for the title. The Chinese duo eliminated the tandem of Mei Kuan Chow Lee Meng Yean of Malaysia in the semifinals in two straight games 21-15, 21-9 that only lasted for 34 minutes.

While in the men's doubles draw, the fifth seeded Chinese pair of Zhang Nan and Lu Kai earned their championship round ticket after crashing the Indonesian duo of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in two sets. They will face the event's second top seeded pair of Yang Lee and Jhe-Huei Lee in the finals.
