Archaeologists with Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have unearthed more than 130 dinosaur fossils that include bone and egg remains from a excavation site near Laiyang's Jingangkou village.

Chinese archaeologists said that they are hopeful of assembling a complete dinosaur skeleton from fossils recovered from the excavation site as most of the fossils are intact as compared to skeletons that were recovered from its surrounding areas.

The largest piece of fossil that has been recovered by Chinese scientists is over 60 cm long and it is believed to be the remains of a dinosaur's humerus or upper arm bone.

Chinese scientists have sealed the rock on which remains of dinosaurs were found with gypsum for further restoration and research on them.

Chinese scientists have first recovered dinosaur's fossils in 2010 and there were recoveries of several dinosaur remains from at least 20 rocks that contained fossil-bearing layers.

Chinese government has declared Laiyang as a national park for dinosaur fossils in 2011.

In 2008, Chinese scientists has recovered in 7,600 dinosaur bones that includes tyrannosaurus  andankylosaurus remains from Zhucheng, Laiyang and its surrounding areas in Shandong province and it is the largest collection of fossils that has been recovered in any part of the world.

Experts believe that the huge recovery of fossils in Shandong province is due to some geological formations in the area as it has undergone a crustal thinning that is unusual for a craton; resulting in extensive volcanism in the Tertiary.
