China and UK creative firms on Monday signed a partnership agreement in Shanghai that aims to boost the film industry between the two nations.

The meeting was held a day before the China-UK high-level people-to-people exchange mechanism's fourth meeting at the Creative Innovators Forum. Other areas to be covered in the new partnership include computer games education and animations.

ECNS reported that the ceremony was attended by both country's governing body representatives who were pleased to be part of the occasion and believe that much more is yet to be achieved.

Karen Bradley, UK's State for Culture, Media and Sports Secretary, said that they saw the need to work with Chinese companies as they both have an opportunity to benefit.

"We believe we have a huge amount to offer, but we also have a great deal to learn from you," Bradley said.

Tong Gang, China's Vice Minister for Press, Publication, Radio, Film and TV, pointed out that the targeted industries have been on a constant growth for a long time. He added that with UK as their partner, there is a greater chance to go further.

"The UK has many talents and much experience to share with us, and it is China's important partner in developing these industries," Gang said.

In his remarks, Gang also noted that it was the second partnership of its kind. The first one was in 2014, which saw the two states partner in the production of six different films. China.org. reported that new partnerships among firms from two countries were also developed during Monday's forum.

Meanwhile, a 40 million pound ($51 million) partnership between London and Shanghai-based company Uniaco and China's Lion Entertainment production will co-produce an animation film in 2017.
