Daimler AG has singled some special plans for China as the German automotive giant seeks to increase revenue from the world's largest car market.

The carmaker is planning to roll out electric car version of its famous Mercedes-Benz brand and also manufacture car batteries in China, according to company's board member Hubertus Troska.

"The strategic plan by the authorities is to push battery electric vehicles. We continue to invest in both battery electric cars and hybrid," Troska said, adding that hybrid cars are the best option in interim owing to lack of battery charging infrastructure across the country.

He also revealed that setting up a battery factory in the mainland is "among the options in the room" but clarified that no final decision has been made yet.

Speaking further on electric cars, Troska confirmed that Mercedes aims to roll out 10 all-electric vehicles in its portfolio by 2025 and has promised to manufacture its EQ model by the end of 2020. He, however, refused to specify if Daimler management has set any specific deadline to start the production of EQ electric car in China.

Daimler is the latest automotive giant to focus on production of electric car market, as it tries to cash on the boom of zero emission cars in the world's largest car market.

Chinese government over the years has announced host of incentives to encourage car companies to manufacture electric cars. These hosts of incentives are part of government's ambitious plan to bring down the level of air pollution across the country.

China is widely considered as the largest emitter of green house gases in the world, with international community constantly pressurizing China to address the sensitive issue. A recent report by Greenpeace claimed that air pollution alone was responsible for the deaths of millions of citizens in China in 2015.
