Instagram has announced new features for the app, giving Instagram users more control over their accounts and boost positivity and safety.

On the company’s blog post, Instagram stated that the new set of tools aims to encourage positivity and create a safer environment for everyone. The update will roll out in the next few weeks. The upcoming updates will then allow users to turn off comments on specific posts, like other comments, and remove followers from private accounts.

“We want to continue to be a place where people can share deeply personal moments," Kevin Systrom, Instagram's co-founder, wrote. "From time to time, you may see friends struggling and in need of support. If you believe that someone you care about may be thinking about injuring themselves, you can report it anonymously, and we will connect your friend to organizations that offer help.”

The Facebook-owned app will also allow users to turn off comments to prevent unwanted comments on their photos and videos. Users can then like comments too in order to spread positivity in the community.

Instagram will also roll out a feature that allows private account holders remove followers instead of blocking them. This feature is most helpful to users who set their accounts in public first before wanting to go private and dedicate the account for friends and family only.

Moreover, Instagram said that users will be able to report anonymously any posts they believe that will cause harm to users or inflict self-harm. The company will have a team to review the reports and connect the reported user to groups that offer help.

In September, the company also updated the app with custom keyword filter for comments, helping users to manage how others engage with their posts.
