Time Magazine has named US President-elect Donald Trump as the Person of the Year, Nancy Gibbs, the managing editor, announced on NBC's Today show on Wednesday.
The magazine called Trump as "President of the Divided States of America," and he was reportedly not happy of the given title. However, he called his selection a great honor in his phone interview with Today's host Matt Lauer.

Commenting on the title, Trump said that "When you say divided states of America, I didn't divide them. They're divided now." He, however, committed that "we're going to put it back together and we're going to have a country that's very well healed."
To answer why Trump was chosen, Gibbs throws a rhetorical question in her article on the Time Magazine. "So which is it this year: Better or worse? The challenge for Donald Trump is how profoundly the country disagrees about the answer," she wrote. Gibbs called this year's choice as "one of the more straightforward years."
Trump beat other finalists including Hillary Clinton, United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Beyoncé, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and whistleblowers in Flint, Mich.
Meanwhile, Trump is no stranger to Time Magazine as this is his 10th to grace the cover. He first appeared in 1989.
Time Magazine has been doing this annual selection of the year's most influential person, group, or idea since 1927. For 90 years in Time Magazine's history, most individuals selected as Person of the Year were men and so far only four women chosen, namely, American socialite Wallis Simpson, Queen Elizabeth II, President Corazon Aquino of the Philippines, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
