Boeing Co. said in a forecast released on Monday that Chinese airlines will be needing at least 5,550 pilots per year over the next two decades as new aircraft orders and air travel demand increase.

China will need an estimated 111,000 new pilots through 2035 to cater the country's booming aviation industry, where the number of airlines has increased from 28 percent to 55 percent over the past five years, the Skift reported.

"We are continuing to see a significant need for new pilots and maintenance technicians in the Asia-Pacific region and across the globe," Sherry Carbary, Boeing Flight Services' vice president, said.

China is currently facing shortage of pilots and has been luring foreign aviators with big pay checks. Foreign pilots are paid as much as $26,000 per month in the mainland.

Meanwhile, Beijing also forecasted that Asia-Pacific will be needing as many as half a million new pilots and technicians over the next 20 years, the Flight Global reported.

"The demand for new pilots is primarily driven by new airplane deliveries and fleet mix, while new technician demand is primarily driven by fleet growth," Boeing said.

The mix is forecasted to include 248,000 new pilots and 268,000 new technicians. The bulk of this comes from China.

Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific region also leads the demand for new commercial airplanes over the next two decades, accounting 40 percent of the global demand mostly driven by the single-aisle market and budget carrier airlines.

The region's airline industry is expected to be worth $2.35 trillion, with more than 15,000 new planes, the SBS noted.
