China's state-owned tabloid on Monday lashed out US President-elect Donald Trump for openly challenging his country's four-decade commitment to 'One China' policy. The audacious challenge comes barely a week after Trump broke the diplomatic protocol by accepting a phone call from Taiwan's president.

A stinging editorial published in The Global Times reminded Trump that the "One China policy cannot be traded" and called on the Chinese government to wage struggle against Trump.
Without mincing words, the hard-hitting editorial claimed that China "cannot be bullied easily." It further warned that China may respond to Trump's provocation by offering military support to US foes.
Meanwhile, the Chinese foreign ministry on Monday immediately took note of Trump's latest controversial statement. It said that Chinese leadership was "seriously concerned" about president elect's latest remark on one China policy. The ministry further added that friendly bilateral ties "were out of question" unless the "political bedrock" of the Sino-US relations was fully adhered to.
The entire fiasco started after Trump made controversial remarks about one China policy during a television interview. He blatantly suggested that China's most important foreign policy must be used as a 'bargaining chip' and questioned US' commitment to the controversial policy.
"I fully understand the 'one China' policy, but I don't know why we have to be bound by a 'one China' policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade," Trump told Fox News.
The US has recognized 'One China' policy in 1979 during Jimmy Carter's presidency. However, the recognition never prevented the US government from supplying military equipments to Taiwan.
'One China' Policy - China's most important foreign policy
Over the years, the 'One China' policy has become Beijing's most significant and critical foreign policy. Chinese government has made it mandatory for all countries to recognize this policy, without which no country can maintain foreign relation with China.
The policy essentially denoted that China and Taiwan are one nation, thereby negating Taiwan's claim as a sovereign nation. The self-ruled island separated from China in 1949, following a prolong civil war. Since then Taiwan has staked its claim as an independent nation and continuously challenged the One China policy.
