The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly shopping Omer Asik but the club is rumored to be having a hard time finding potential trade partners to deal the veteran center.

When Asik was traded to the Pelicans in the summer of 2014, he was expected to become the ideal center to partner with All-Star big man Anthony Davis so the latter could slide down to his more comfortable role as a power forward.

However, as he is currently playing in his third season in New Orleans, that expectation was never met as he produced paltry and declining numbers ever since. Right now, the Turkish big man is only averaging 3.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks in only 17.5 minutes per game, which are stats that does not help Davis a lot.

It is no secret that Asik is an ill-fit to Davis and has been struggling since he joined New Orleans, resulting to speculations that the Pelicans have had enough of it and are seeking to deal him this upcoming trade season.

There are rumors linking Asik to the Boston Celtics earlier this season, but at his current performance and trade value, it looks like the Pelicans will not get a call from the Celtics any time soon, as per Bleacher Report.

CSNNE reported that Boston has always been interested in acquiring Asik since his rookie days with the Chicago Bulls until his current stint with the Pelicans. However, the Celtics are in a "wait-and-see approach" as the team president and general manager Danny Ainge is said to be prioritizing a trade for a superstar rather than for role players at the moment.

"Danny has enough good players," the report said, citing a source. "He's looking for a star, or at least someone who is trending in that direction. It makes sense. Look at that team now. That's the only thing they're missing, really."

The Pelicans could soon find a willing team to trade for Asik, but they cannot expect "getting much more than a rotation player" for the six-year pro at this time.
