The suspect arrested for the disappearance of a four-year-old boy afflicted with autism has been charged with additional crimes on Monday. Florida police determined a connection between the man and the quadruple murder discovered at the child's home earlier this month. Investigators stated that the decomposing bodies were located by the side of the road.

Adam Matos was charged by authorities with four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the quadruple killing of his ex-girlfriend, her current boyfriend, and the girl's parents, as stated by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. 28

The 28-year-old suspect has been in custody of the police since September 5. He was arrested at a hotel located in downtown Tampa, where he allegedly hid with the four-year-old son of one of the victims. Although police initially did not know his relationship with the boy, further investigation revealed that the child is Matos' son. The boy has been returned to relatives following the rescue operation.

The affidavit filed by the sheriff's officials on Monday revealed grisly details on the crime scene, in which Matos is considered the primary suspect. According to authorities, Matos had just recently moved from Pennsylvania to Florida with the murdered family members.

The police were alerted by the victims' relatives when they reported that they have had no contact with the family for several days. This prompted the officers to visit the family's two-story home in Hudson, Florida. The responding officers identified what appeared to be a bullet in the driveway. They also noticed that the house reeked with a stench emanating from their garage. Upon following the smell, the officers were greeted with the sight of carpets and rugs presumably soaked in blood.

Further search for the house's inhabitants led the responding officers to the decomposing bodies located roughly a mile away. The bodies were said to have been covered in maggots. The victims were later identified as Megan Brown, 27, Margaret Brown, 52, Gregory Brown, 52, and Nicholas Leonard, 37.

Autopsy reports indicated that Megan and her father Gregory were fatally shot while Margaret and Leonard were said to have suffered from a blunt trauma to the head. The latter two were also allegedly asphyxiated.

Prior to his arrest, Matos had already encountered the police as Megan reportedly called the authorities on August 28 when the suspect threatened her with a knife to her throat. In addition, investigators found that the suspect placed approximately 200 calls to Margaret and Megan's mobile phones on the same day. Subsequently, he informed a neighbor that the Brown family moved to another state. He then remained at the house for a few days and posted online ads advertising its sale.
