The Great Wall is set to open in China on Friday, and the world is eager to see the result of the unprecedented collaboration.

The film, which is dubbed as the biggest Hollywood-China co-production ever, is designed to bridge the two largest box office territories in the world. The Great Wall, which has an estimated worth of $150 million, is co-produced by Legendary Entertainment, Le Vision Pictures, China Film Group, and Universal Pictures.

The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) film was one of the last huge US films to get a China co-production status, and now, it seems like everyone is keen to know if The Great Wall will break the record.

The film tells the story of crack troops assigned to defend attacks from flocks of beasts called Tao Tie (TAO TEE-YAY), which is a symbol of greed in ancient Chinese mythology who wage an attack every 60 years.

The Great Wall is directed by Chinese maestro Zhang Yimou and stars Matt Damon who plays a British mercenary and joins the Chinese troops to fight for humanity against an army of Tao Tie, Willem Defoe, and Pablo Pascal, along with other A-list Chinese talents including Hong Kong's Andy Lau and local heartthrobs Lu Han and Lin Gengxin.

Of note, if the film does big business in both middle America and the Middle Kingdom, then more of such fusions are highly expected. However if the movie bombs in either market, then big budget co-pors will continue to transpire trepidation, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

The Great Wall opens in North America on Feb. 17
