Chinese Basketball Association Round 20: Beikong Fly Dragons Upset Sichuan Blue Whales

Beikong Fly Dragons scored another big upset of the season as they got the better of the league's defending champions Sichuan Blue Whales with a 104-98 triumph on Wednesday night at the country's capital city in the 20th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).

The Fly Dragon's foreign reinforcements put on impressive combined performances to give the franchise of Beikong its first ever victory over the Wenjiang District, Chengdu-based Chinese professional basketball outfit since the club entered the CBA in the 2014-15 season as an expansion team.
According to EuroBasket, Goshen Maple Leafs product Errick McCollum poured in game-high 35 points, while former Uruguayan NBA player Esteban Batista registered another double-double game production of 24 markers and game-high 18 boards as they lead the Fly Dragons to its fifth win of the season.
The two basketball imports went on a combined 19 for 36 shooting from the two-point range and converted 9-of-11 free throw shots from the foul line. They got their offensive support from Chinese players Chin-Min Yang and Zhenyu Wang, who contributed with 17 and 13 points, respectively.
Sichuan's Rongqi Huang and Hamed Haddadi both have a double-double game performance to pace the Blue Whales, but it was not enough to take the game away from the Fly Dragons. Huang had 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Haddadi posted 26 markers and 15 boards during the match.
Basing from the game result in NowGoal, the score was tied at 52-52 at the half as the winning team put on a 28-27 run during the third quarter to enter the final 12 minutes of the contest carrying a slim one-point lead, 80-79.
In the fourth quarter, the Fly Dragons managed to contain the Blue Whales as they limited the point production of the CBA 2015-16 season titleholders. Beikong staged another 24-19 run to seal the victory.
The Fly Dragons are scheduled to face Xinjiang Flying Tigers on Sunday for the next round of the competition.
