China has expressed its disappointment over the extension of trade remedy measures on Chinese photovoltaic products, which entails continuing anti-subsidy and anti-dumping charges on solar products imported from China.
Wang Hejun, chief of Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau, stated that such prohibitive measures adversely affect Chinese industry, adding that these actions are also against long-term interests of the EU. The EU has decided to keep levying anti-subsidy and anti-dumping charges on Chinese goods for two more years.

Wang called for the total elimination of such duties on the import of Chinese solar goods. He was quoted saying that "The EU should terminate PV anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures as soon as possible to enable the PV market to return to normal." Chinese authorities highlighted the importance of solar products for addressing climate changes.
The duties imposed on solar products imported from China were hiked in 2013. The EU had contended that the country had extended improper subsidies to the manufacturer, leading to lower prices.
Originally, the duties were scheduled to expire in March next year. However, with the new extension, the tariffs will be applicable to Chinese goods through March 2019.
The European Commission has not made any formal announcement of its decision. Chinese authorities have urged the European Commission to focus on improving and strengthening trade ties between the Union and China.
Wang underscored that China and the EU are important trade and strategic partners. He said that both parties should endeavor to collaborate for boosting world economic growth and for combating environmental change.
