The new regulation will be applicable to both domestic and foreign firms. It is likely to have special recommendations for overseas firms.

Earlier this year, CAC had laid out the framework for a new cybersecurity law. The regulator also dismissed foreign companies' claim that such regulation will hamper competition between overseas and domestic companies.

The CAC emphasized that the new regulations are mainly meant to counter the growing risks of cyberattacks. The regulator also said that the upcoming framework will help in combating terrorism threat.

Zhao Zeliang, director general of the bureau of cybersecurity for CAC, said that all domestic and foreign companies will be required to provide key information about their products and services. A proper review would be carried out before such products and services are considered safe to be sold or installed in the country.

Zhao said, "China will do its utmost to protect the information safety of the country and its citizens." The country is fast becoming wary of foreign companies as the global risk for cyber espionage increases multifold.

However, the regulators have emphasized that the new measures are not targeted against foreign companies. The country has also called for ramping up global cooperation against cyber threats. China stated that it is committed to open and safe cyber environment.
