Lenovo has unveiled two new gaming-oriented series of laptops called Legion at CES 2017.
Lenovo’s own brand of gaming PCs will compete against Dell’s Alienware, Asus’s ROG, and other custom PC manufacturers like iBuyPower and CyberPower. The Legion lineup will composed of a 4k-capable gaming notebook called the Y720 and budget-friendly Y520 version.

“Just as the Roman army shared a common purpose that bound them together as a force to be reckoned with, Lenovo Legion is all about our growing community of gamers and their passion for gaming,” Lenovo said about the name of the gaming laptop series.
Lenovo Y720 and Y520 are both powered by Intel 7th-gen Core processors (aka Kaby Lake), with the Y720 offering up to the i7-7700HQ quad-core model. Both laptops offer 16GB of DDR4 RAM with internal storage options of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The two gaming laptops feature PCIe SSD based boot storage as well.
Both are offering 15.6-inch display. The Y720 offers UHD with 3840 x 2160 pixels and full-HD IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels, providing anti-glare for gamers who prefer playing outside. Y520, on the other hand, offers only full-HD IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels with Anti-glare too.
The new models appear to be slightly slimmer versions of Lenovo's previous Y-series laptops. Both provide accents and keyboard red backlighting and a wide central hinge connected to an angular body. Y720 weighs 7.05 lbs, while Y520 is only 5.3 lbs.
As for the audio, both laptops provide 2x2W speakers, but the Y720 version adds a 3W subwoofer and is the first ever Dolby Atmos PC. Lenovo Y720 has 60Wh battery, while Y520 has just a 45Wh. Other features include a pair of USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 port, USB-C port, HDMI, Ethernet, a four-in-one card reader, an audio jack, and a microphone jack.
Lenovo Legion Y520 will be available starting February with a price tag of $899.99, and the Legion Y720 will be available on April at $1,399.99.
