Over 20 young people in Southwest China were arrested and detained on Friday after they were found to have allegedly been preparing to be part of a gang fight.
The South China Morning Post reported that the planned fight was discovered while carrying out another police investigation into an assault case, local officials in Sichuan said on its social media account.

"The suspects were trying to recruit over 20 people to take part in the fight mostly from Xichang in the prefecture," according to a statement from police officials. "They were planning to drive to the Nanhing county to help one of the suspect's cousins fight against a rival gang."
Over 20 police officers had to be gathered to ensure that the suspects were rounded up as they head to the county. Investigations about the case are currently still ongoing.
Meanwhile, gang fights are not quite as common in China than in other states. However, Chinese gangs have in the past been known to create cartels for their own self-interest.
For instance, in October 2016, Chinese gangs mostly from Dongguan and Zhengzhou district were uncovered for using disabled people as beggars.
The gang had been using the disabled people and people with disfigured faces to go begging in Asian streets after they had been issued travel visas from China. The beggars are tasked to ask for money in common tourist hotspots and later hand most of it over to the gang leaders.
One beggar who was willing but still frightened to communicate said that the gang was quite large and had connections.
"Back in China, there are many beggars who are suffering because of this gang," he said.
