A Michigan funeral home has created a new way for people to mourn the loss of a loved one without ever leaving their car - the innovative technique is achieved through a drive-thru window.

Paradise Funeral Chapel proprietor Ivan Phillips has given people in Saginaw, Michigan a new option to speed up saying their farewells to their deceased loved ones through a drive-thru window.

The new feature in the funeral home was unveiled on Sunday. An opening displays the body inside a casket at a specialized area which has been raised and tilted to suit public viewing through the window.

When a car pulls up and tips the sensor, the curtains covering the window automatically open and allow mourners to view and say their farewells as well as pray for their dead loved one while soulful music plays in the background.

After the cars leave, the curtains close and prepare for the next viewer.

An opening is also accessible from the drive-thru where people can leave donations and items for remembrance as well as a guestbook where they can sign their names.

According to Phillips, the innovation is specially made for people who have difficulty in moving, particularly the elderly as well as for those who are scared of funeral homes.

"You may find people who are afraid of funeral homes, now they can view their loved ones from the convenience of their car," he told Fox 2 Now.

Phillips is also aware that the new way of mourning may incite a different reaction from the community members which include negative feedback from people who deem this form of mourning as 'undignified.'

Paradise Funeral Chapel is offering the drive-thru services without any extra charge on the family in order to allow more people to get the chance to see those who passed away.
