Japanese tech giant Nintendo confirmed via tweet that the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch console will be available for pre-order on Friday 9 a.m. at the company's store based in New York City.

The gaming community has been anticipating the release of the Nintendo Switch ever since the company released the first teaser of the console. Nintendo posted the tweet on Thursday and left a very short notice for interested buyers to properly place their orders.

Aside from the rather surprise pre-order announcement, Nintendo also confirmed that the company will only release a limited quantity of preorder units, according to PC Mag. Nintendo added on its tweet that the pre-order will only last until there is still available supply.

Nintendo has been building the hype around the Switch console for quite some time already, and the company's latest stunt will prove just how far the company will go until the console will receive the attention it deserves.

Despite Nintendo's silence about the Switch console, the gaming community has a pretty much vague idea of what the console is. A handful of leaks have provided valuable insights regarding what to expect with Nintendo's latest device.

For one, the Nintendo Switch is a hybrid console that can be both a mobile device and an in-home console. According to Time, it can be played by docking it into an entertainment center or as a mobile tablet console.

Previous leaks also hinted that the "Legend of Zelda" game is slated to be released in March, sparking speculations that it will be one of the first Switch-exclusive games to hit the market.
