Recent rumors have emerged that La Liga champions FC Barcelona will make a move for Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana if the club's bid for teammate Philippe Coutinho does not push through.

Lallana, 28, has reportedly impressed several big clubs in Europe with his performances this season. The England international has scored seven goals and dished off seven assists in 21 appearances in all competitions at central midfield for the Reds this term, which prompted former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher to call him "England's best player" at the moment.

Metro reported that Barça's interest is based on the premise that the team will miss the signing of Coutinho, who is said to be the Catalan giants' first choice at the Anfield.

However, some analysts believe that Lallana would only make the Barcelona midfield "overcrowded" as the Camp Nou residents already have Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Denis Suárez, Andre Gomes, and Rafinha competing for a place in Luis Enrique's middle three, according to ESPN.

Based on his skills, Lallana can also play the front three, but as Arda Turan and Paco Alcacer have found out in Barcelona, it would be almost impossible to "wrestle game time away from Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Neymar".

With that, the report then noted that acquiring Lallana would not be one of Barça's top priorities this winter even if they fail to sign Coutinho.

Meanwhile, there are also speculations that Italian champions Juventus could target Lallana if their bid for Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez would be unfruitful.

Aside from that, Paris Saint-Germain's interest in the midfielder is said to be ongoing as the Ligue 1 champions could also be another option for Lallana if he decides to quit Anfield this season.

There are no indications, though, that Lallana is considering to leave his current squad.

Liverpool acquired Lallana from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for an estimated transfer fee of $30 million. He has been at the Anfield for three-and-a-half seasons now and has netted 20 goals in a total of 111 games in all competitions in the said time span.
