According to the executive committee of the 50^th Golden Horse Awards on Sept. 2^nd, world famous director Ang Lee is named for the chairman for the jury of the 50^th Golden Horse Awards. While another Taiwanese celebrated director Tsai Ming-Liang's new film "Stray Dogs" will be the opening film for the Golden Horse Awards Festival. And Hong Kong director Johnnie To will decide who can be the grand prizewinner for a prize of NT$1 million. Besides, Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien will hold the post of mentor for the Golden Horse Film Academy, in order to guide the young filmmakers.

The Golden Horse Awards has passed through half a century. Nowadays, the grand festival has attracted four outstanding directors as its leaders. Since last year Ang Lee returned to Taiwan to promote his film "Life of Pi" and attended the annual Golden Horse Awards Festival, Ang Lee has been invited by the executive committee to head the jury of the Golden Horse Awards. However, due to Ang Lee's busy schedule, it was only possible for him to take part in the awards ceremony at that time. After multilateral coordination, finally, Ang Lee spared around half a month to censor the films in Taiwan. The famous director said humbly that it was his honor to be invited to serve as the chairman of the jury for the 50^th Golden Horse Awards. He would try his best to coordinate the opinions from every jury member and to express their sincere suggestions for the ceremonious film festival.

Since Tsai Ming-Liang's "Stray Dogs" will be open the 50^th Golden Horse Awards Festival, it is not only the sole Chinese film to have been a finalist in this year's Venice Film Festival, but also the best, most satisfactory and most liberal work considered by Tsai Ming-Liang himself.

Hou Hsiao-Hsien, chairman of the executive committee, founded the Golden Horse Film Academy five years ago. Under his call, many masters have joined in the project of moulding talented filmmakers. This year, Hou Hsiao-Hsien will be a mentor by himself. The Golden Horse Film Academy will also become the first activity among this year's Golden Horse Awards Festival.
