South Korean singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong on Monday issued an apology to his former girlfriend through his official website, addressing the issues about his alleged abusive behavior the previous month.
In the apology, which was addressed to his former partner, her family and fans, the actor said he is ashamed of what he did, labeling it as "something that a man should never do".

"I am really sorry for inflicting so much mental and physical pain on a person, who had trusted and loved me in the past two years," Kim wrote.
The actor admitted that the incident was entirely his fault and came to his former girlfriend's defense, saying that she shouldn't be blamed for any of it.
Reports had surfaced last month saying Kim was abusing his former girlfriend of two years by repeatedly beating her up.
The actor had initially denied the allegations of abuse but admitted that he got into a violent argument with her on one occasion.
The denial was later refuted by Kim's girlfriend, who showed photos of her injuries to media, saying that she had to be admitted to a hospital because of Kim's abusive behavior.
On September 12, Kim's legal team released a statement saying that the actor was remorseful of what he did and hoped that he would be able to settle the matter outside of court by writing a public apology.
On the same day, the legal counsel of Kim's former girlfriend threatened to expose more proof of the actor's abuses if he didn't admit to his faults and apologize to his client.
In Monday's online public apology, Kim expressed hope that she would accept his apology and promised to become a better person. The actor is also said to have called his ex-girlfriend to personally apologize.
Kim's former girlfriend said she does not wish for the actor's downfall, but has yet to decide whether or not she will drop the charges against him.
