Several rumors claimed that the Android Wear 2.0 update is expected to be rolled out on Feb. 9. The information was first shared by notable tipster Evan Blass.

The Android Wear 2.0 update was supposed to be released late last year, but due to undisclosed issues, Google decided to postpone its release, according to Android Headlines. However, rumors that the update is ready for a wide release have gained a lot of attention lately.

One of the reasons pointed out by some tech analysts as to why Google delayed the release of Android Wear 2.0 is the current decline of demand for smartwatches. Nevertheless, Google is still adamant that the upcoming update will once again boost the popularity of smartwatches.

In December, Google shared some images of the upcoming Android Wear 2.0 apps. Among the ones confirmed by the tech giant were Lifesum, Foursquare, and Glide. The update is also expected to bring performance-related updates and security patches.

Google, as well as its hardware partners, is yet to confirm which smartwatches are expected to receive the Android Wear 2.0 update first. However, there are speculations that most first generation devices will most likely be skipped.

Google has hinted in the past that the company is working on a couple of new smartwatches. According to Android Police, although the tech giant did not confirm it, some in the tech community believe that these upcoming smartwatches will most likely run on Android Wear 2.0 right out of the box. It is also important to note that Google has already released Android Wear 2.0 Developer Preview to some of its third-party hardware partners.
