Unlike the Raspberry Pi 3 which it is based from, the new Compute Module 3 is designed and built for prototype developers, industrial applications, and advanced hobbyists. At the heart of the Compute Module 3 is a Broadcom processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, and an upgradeable storage option, according to The Register.

To highlight some of the possible applications of the new Compute Module 3, Raspberry Pi Foundation pointed out that NEC used the device in one of its newest signage and presentation monitors.

Another great feature of the Compute Module 3 is its form factor. The device fits into a standard DDR2 SODIMM slot making it easy for users to find low-cost sockets from a variety of manufacturers.

The Compute Module 3 with an upgradeable microSD storage option costs $30. The Lite module has a 4GB fixed flash memory and costs $25. The Raspberry Pi Foundation will also release the IO board, which costs $116. The Compute Module 3 and the IO board when bundled together will cost $143, according to Engadget.

The new Raspberry Compute Module 3 can be ordered on the company's official website. The company will announce in the future when the new device will be available in the United States, as well as other regions.
