Audi announced its plan to sell more electric vehicles in China. It is also looking to promote autonomous driving in the country. The major auto company will collaborate with FAW Group Corp to boost its presence in China.
Under the terms of their collaboration, Audi and FAW have agreed to develop five new electric cars in China. These new cars will be introduced over the course of next five years. The companies announced on Tuesday that Audi has plans to develop the A6 L e-tron plug-in hybrid in the country this year.

The collaboration will also bring Q7 e-tron model to China through imports. Apart from these, the future plans include introducing cars which are fully powered through batteries. These cars will have a range above 500 kilometers.
Audi sales chief Dietmar Voggenreiter said, "We are starting the next phase of our joint growth path in China.More than ever, our partnership is focusing on profitable, sustainable growth." Audi is looking to challenge growing competition from BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the Chinese market.
Audi is one of the top sellers in premium car brands in China. In 2016, it reported selling 591,554 cars in the country, up 3.6 percent. However, BMW reported 11 percent jump in its sales during the same time period.
Audi and FAW have signed a 10 year blueprint. The companies will collaborate for mobility, digital services and financial services. China is fast becoming one of the fastest growing markets for electric cars. In a bid to promote greener alternatives, Chinese government plans to have five million such vehicles on road by 2020.
