In his meeting with IOC president Thomas Bach in Lausanne, Switzerland on Wednesday, the Chinese leader expressed his commitment towards staging a grand international Olympics event.
Xinhua reported that President Xi particularly pledged to make the Beijing Winter Olympics "remarkable, extraordinary and excellent event." By holding an excellent gathering of athletes, China is reportedly optimistic about raking in a number of benefits, especially in improving the Chinese people's health.
For his part, Bach noted that the 2022 Winter Olympics would "make more achievements in various areas like politics, economy, culture and sports in the future." It is worth noting that Beijing will be the first city to host both the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics.
In the meantime, China Daily reported that the organizing committee for the upcoming international event was set up in December 2015. It has at least 170 members representing nine departments and two operational centers.
The director of the sports department of the committee, Tong Lixin, admitted that preparing the venue for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is never easy.
"The lack of talent in winter venue operation and technical support has been a challenge," he said. "We will work closely with international winter sports federations, equipment providers, and foreign venue operators to train our own staff."
Amid this, the construction of the Beijing Winter Olympics venue is expected to start soon.
