Leonardo de Caprio may not have won Oscar, but at least the United Nations has recognized him, maybe not for his impeccable acting skills, but for being genuinely for the preservation of Mother Earth. The United Nations is making him a Climate Change Representative!
No, it's not for him being lead actor in Titanic and neither because the film involved ice bergs, which by the way are melting in the Antarctic.

According to UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon, it is because the actor has been actively participating in organizations that want to solve the worsening climate change problem.
Mr. Moon said in a statement, "A new voice will be joining our climate advocacy efforts." He said that DiCaprio is not just one of the leading actors in Hollywood but one who has a long-standing commitment to environmental causes.
Mr. Moon noted that DiCaprio will be an addition to the 11 peace messengers in a press conference on Tuesday. The first task of the actor is to address the UN summit meeting regarding climate change in New York on the 23rd of September.
In 1998, DiCaprio launched the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which aims to protect the Earth's last wild places. It has already contributed funds in order to protect tigers in Nepal and elephants in the wild, and protect marine animals as well.
DiCaprio has also produced documentaries such as "Water Planet" and "Global Warming" in order to let people understand the impact of climate change. He has opened up his own website for people to discuss environmental news and content on www.leonardodicaprio.org.
DiCaprio said that it was an honor to accept the appointment and noted that how the people will be responding to the effects of climate change will possibly determine the fate of the inhabitants of Earth in general.
As of now, there are 11 other climate change messengers, among them Michael Douglas, Charlize Theron and Elie Wiesel.
