At least 19 high-rise buildings were demolished in just 10 seconds in a controlled explosion in China's Wuhan City on Saturday.
"For this kind of large-scale blasting demolition conducted in the downtown area, we not only need to guarantee the demolition result, but also strictly control the adverse effects of blasting," Jia Yongsheng, general director of the demolition said.

About five tons of TNT were reportedly used to carry out the simultaneous demolition of the 12-storeyed establishments that covered an area of more than 15 hectares. The explosives were positioned in around 120,000 locations in the buildings.
"The demolition effect was quite ideal," Jia said, stressing that it "didn't affect the light rail and public facilities around the blasted buildings."
According to South China Morning Post, this is the third controlled explosion carried out in the area. Local officials have demolished at least 32 buildings so far that will pave way for the construction of a marquee business district.
The recent initiative allegedly gathered a construction investment of more than 30 billion yuan ($4.4 billion) and is poised to create a 707-meter tall skyscraper, which will be one of the tallest buildings in the world; a cross-harbor tunnel; and an underground complex.
Wang Xuguang, an implosion expert from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, noted that this was the first attempt to demolish a huge complex in a busy metropolitan area. Wang further added that instead of utilizing the traditional demolition approach, an implosion technique was used, thus giving the city a leeway of more than four months to prepare the site.
