Tech firms are starting to manufacture robotic arms for consumer-level use. This is a big step for the industry, as robotic arms are usually used in large-scale factories and manufacturing facilities. Tech company uArm recently unveiled the uArm Swift and the uArm Swift Pro robotic arms that users can program at home for their personal use.

The latest products from uArm can manage tasks like picking and placing things, laser engraving, painting, 3D printing, even playing chess. The robotic arm is based on an Arduino open source project which makes it an ideal tool for programming and even supports offline learning mode for integrating gesture controls into the system. The robotic arm can also be controlled using a mouse and keyboard combination using the uArm Play app, according to Giz China.

Aside from the uArm robot, optional products like suction cups, universal holder, metallic gripper, even an OpenMV camera module are also available. Powering the uArm Swift is four-axis parallel mechanism made from aluminum alloys. The robot is very light and can carry up to 500grams of payload.

The uArm Swift has a normal RC servos, while the uArm Swift Pro sports a stepper motor that has a customized gearbox and 12bit encoder. According to New Atlas, both models have built-in Bluetooth and USB support.

The uArm Swift project is still in its prototype stage, and the team behind it have launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund it. The project was able to exceed its first goal with just a couple of hours after it kicked off. Deliveries should start in May, and the robotic arm starts at $209 for the standard model.
