The Milwaukee Bucks have traded Miles Plumlee to the Charlotte Hornets for veterans Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes in a frontcourt exchange between the two clubs.

According to Oregon Live, the Bucks and Hornets completed the deal on Thursday which also sent some cash considerations to Charlotte.

"We are excited to add Miles to our roster," said Hornets general manager Rich Cho. "He is an athletic big man who brings additional physicality and rebounding to our frontcourt rotation. He's a proven player with a strong work ethic and we think he'll fit in well with our core group."

Plumlee, 28, joins Hornets coach Steve Clifford's squad to become a backup center to Cody Zeller. He now forms the new Hornets frontline along with power forwards Marvin Williams and sophomore Frank Kaminsky III.

The former Duke standout, who is the older brother of two other NBA players Mason (Blazers) and Marshall (Knicks), is in the first year of his four-year, $50 million contract with Milwaukee which would pay him an average of $12.5 million a year.

He has struggled to find playing time this season as he averaged 2.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 0.3 blocks in only 9.7 minutes per game in 32 games this season under Bucks head coach Jason Kidd, the lowest in his career since his rookie year in Indiana.

The 30-year-old Hibbert, his former Pacers teammate, is also producing career-low numbers in Charlotte at this time, averaging 5.2 points, 3.6 boards, 0.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks in only 16.0 minutes per game.

Meanwhile, Hawes, also 28, has played a little more than Hibbert for the Hornets this season at 17.9 minutes per game. He is averaging 7.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.7 blocks.

Sporting News noted that the deal is "a bit of a curious trade" for the part of the Hornets as they gave up two reliable role players for someone who was not even being used by his coach as of late.

There are rumors that Clifford has been eyeing Plumlee "for some time" now and when the opportunity to acquire him was presented, the Hornets quickly grabbed him despite his substantial salary.
