ZTE has released an Android Nougat update for the Axon 7 earlier this week, which brings support for the Google Daydream VR.
With the arrival of Nougat on Axon 7, users can enjoy some Google Daydream features. Currently, the Axon 7 is the cheapest and no contract Daydream phone on the market with a price tag of $400. To compare, Google’s Pixel phone starts at around $650 and the Moto Z at $700.

“Delivering Android Nougat for the Axon 7 provides consumers with an enhanced experience and greater value when purchasing this flagship device. Also, with Daydream certification, consumers are now able to have an immersive VR experience at a price they can afford when paired with the Daydream View headset,” said Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA.
As one of the first companies to support Daydream, the Axon 7 will feature powerful audio and visual capabilities. It will provide an immersive VR experience and is the most affordable Daydream-ready phone in the United States.
Aside from the virtual reality feature, the Android N will help users to personalize their device like never before. The update has added capabilities such as the ability to run two apps side by side, express themselves through a wide array of emoji, and save battery power while on the go.
Moreover, ZTE joined a start-up called Hiya. The start-up will help ZTE to bring caller ID and call blocking features to the Axon 7. This will be available for free together with the update. It will take the form of an enhanced phone app that taps the service’s database of 1.5 billion phone numbers.
With the feature, when an incoming call is matched with a known bad number, an auto-blocking feature will prevent it from coming through. Users can also block numbers manually. Hiya also provides call-blocking services to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Samsung Galaxy S7 users worldwide.
