Maotai, luxury wine well known as China's official "National Liquor", is facing a dilemma. "Nowadays, I can barely sell a single bottle of Maotai per day. The business of Maotai is going downhill. If we only sell Maotai, maybe we will starve to death later." A Maotai wholesaler said with an anxious expression on his face.

Though Chinese traditional harvest festival Mid-Autumn Day is coming, Maotai is still left out in the cold, which is a rear occurrence, as Maotai used to be an ideal gift for all occasions and holidays in China. Even worse, Maotai's shares plunge continuously after Kweichow Moutai Company, China's largest liquor maker, unveiled its latest financial report. In order to boost the market's confidence, some major stockholders of Kweichow Moutai Company have to increase their holdings to stabilize the market. However, analysts are still worried about Maotai's performance in the upcoming quarter.
In Mr. Liu's Maotai wholesale stores, he has replaced the Maotai liquor with beverages and instant noodles. "If we only sell Maotai, we will starve to death. I'd better sell something else to help myself." Liu said. At present, the wholesale price for 53-degree Flying Maotai is 960 yuan. There is nothing different comparing to the price in May or June, despite Mid-Autumn Day is approaching, while in the past, the highest wholesale price for 53-degree Flying Maotai ever reached up to 1600 yuan in Liu's store. "Times have changed. I didn't expect the unfavorable situation of Maotai would last so long." Mr. Liu added.
It is indisputable that Chinese luxurious liquor is facing a dilemma. A celebrated investor sighed on his Sina Weibo, Chinese version of Twitter, saying that the days for Chinese liquor enterprises to lie on the ground and make money easily have completely gone.
