The Sacramento Kings have traded All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans just days before this year's NBA trade deadline.

Bleacher Report cited The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski as the source of the report, saying that "the Kings will receive guard Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and a 2017 first and second-round pick in exchange for Cousins".

The blockbuster deal allowed Cousins to join fellow All-Star big man Anthony Davis in New Orleans, creating a fearsome twin tower combination for the Pelicans.

Cousins, 26, is in the third year of his four-year, $65.6 million contract with the Kings, which will make him an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2018. Earlier reports went out that Sacramento is planning to give Cousins a five-year extension worth more than $200 million this offseason, which the former Kentucky standout reportedly wants to accept.

There had been rumors that the Kings are "debating Cousins' future internally" ahead of this year's All-Star Game, which the West won over the East, 192-182, on Sunday night where both Cousins and Davis suited up.

The report mentioned that the three-time All-Star's "uneven behavior" had "softened "(Kings owner Vivek) Ranadive's resolve" to retain his franchise player and has also started to recognize the "management's concerns about Cousins' temperament to become a franchise pillar".

NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk acknowledged that the blockbuster deal is something a "few in the league saw coming this quickly". While some analysts say that the trade is a "big win" for the Pelicans, it was also a relief for the Kings to finally move on from Cousins and rebuild once more.

Cousins has played his entire six-and-a-half seasons in the league with the Kings and all of them has ended in a playoff-less campaign. Sacramento has been out of the playoffs for ten years now.

At the moment, the question for the Pelicans is if they can re-sign Cousins next year when he hits free-agency. There are rumors that Cousins is not planning to re-sign with any team that trades for him and so it is up to New Orleans to change his mind with regards to that issue.
