Xiaomi is developing a successor to the Mi Max that is likely to be released in May. The upcoming device was spotted on China's popular social media networking Weibo, revealing the specifications of Mi Max 2 ahead of its official launch.

Since Xiaomi is not present at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, it is a wise move to announce this plan. The successor of Mi Max is said to be powered by Snapdragon 660 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and comes with 128GB of internal storage. Details on the option of expandable storage are not known at the moment. As far as the software is concerned, it will likely to run Android 7.0 Nougat with Xiaomi’s MIUI over the top.

The device will sport a 6.44-inch display, which is also similar to its predecessor. For power, the Mi Max 2 is said to use a 5,000mAh battery along with support for fast charge. Other specs of the device such as its camera, connectivity options, and software have not been disclosed yet.

To recall, Xiaomi Mi Max was launched in China in May 2016. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and comes with 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD. The phablet has a 6.44-inch full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top and is powered by a 4850mAh battery. It features a 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

Recently, Xiaomi launched the Snapdragon version of the Redmi Note 4 and the Redmi Note 4X with a limited edition Teal Green ‘Hatsune Miku’ edition. It also released a Matte Black version of the Redmi Note 4 in India.
