Online retailer Amazon has just announced its new series geared towards a wide range of users, from tech-savvy children to the budget-conscious consumer.

The new lineup of devices includes upgraded models of Amazon's Fire HD 7 and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, as well as a high-end e-book reader dubbed the Kindle Voyage and a colorful Kindle Fire HD 6.

Kids Editions models of the Fire HD 6 and 7 are also available. The tablets geared towards children have a case, a 2-year year warranty period and a free year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited , a service in which subscribers receive child-friendly content such as videos, apps and games.

The e-commerce giant is increasing the variety of its devices, mimicking the approach of rival Samsung, according to the people at CNET. The scheme, dubbed the "shotgun approach," requires Amazon to develop a number of tablets to fill every niche of the consumer market and hope a device clicks with the public.

Additionally, the online retailer is putting its trust on what has worked best for it, which is serving parents that want to have an inexpensive tablet for their young ones.

"Fire HD Kids Edition is a real tablet, not a toy," said Peter Larsen, an Amazon vice president of devices. "Kids break things, so we added a 2-year, no-questions-asked, worry-free guarantee."

Amazon has uniformly catered to parents since it debuted its tablet lineup. The online retailer's Fire tablets have appealed to parents as a cheap but good-quality alternative to Apple, Inc.'s iPad.

Amazon has also promoted tablet use for kids with the Kindle FreeTime, a mode on the tablet that lets parents dictate the settings on in-app purchases and content on the devices.
