Recent reports on Wednesday indicate that at least seven deaths have been recorded in China after Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall in its southern region.
Almost six million people have been devastated by the recent havoc wrought by the typhoon, leaving 5.78 billion yuan, or US$ 940 million in direct economic losses in Hainan alone.

Four of the reported deaths were due to fallen trees, one related to a collapsed building while another was found dead after drowning in China's southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
According to Provincial Flood Control Headquarters Deputy Chen Wu, another one had died in the province of Hainan while one individual was reported missing after strong winds and rainstorms ravaged the island.
Fisheries, agriculture, road and water facilities in Hainan have been directly affected by the devastation of Kalmaegi while 835 out of 1,394 fishing boats that have returned to harbor sank in Chengmai County.
However, residents in the province of Guangdong are gradually returning to their normal day-to-day activities after the weather had calmed down in the area.
People in Guangdong scoured the remnants of what used to be their properties after over 1,000 homes were destroyed, hoping to find something of worth and make use of it to start over.
In the province, financial losses have amounted to more than US$200 million, with over 1 million residents hoping to get by with the aid of the local government.
Packing a speed of 40 meters per second, Typhoon Kalmaegi landed in Hainan at 9:40 a.m. on September 16, making it the 15th typhoon to hit China in 2014.
Meanwhile, Kalmaegi, locally known as Luis, also left damages in agriculture and fisheries in the northern part of the Philippines, prompting some local governments affected to declare a state of calamity due to the severe flooding it has caused.
At least eight people were killed during its journey west-northwest of the peninsula, leaving damages amounting to US$14 million.
Kalmaegi also affected parts of Vietnam, leaving 9 dead and 10 individuals injured. Nearly US$1 million worth of damages have also been reported as of September 18.
