The Red Eagles, now coached by Portuguese mentor André Villas-Boas, showcased their star power during the match as Brazilians Elkeson, Hulk, and Oscar have all contributed in the impressive five-goal haul. Elkeson was in top form as he scored a hat trick.
After Changchun defender Fan Xiaodong opened the scoring in the 26th minute, the Brazilians began their onslaught with Hulk burying a penalty kick in the 34th to equalize the match. SIPG then took the lead two minutes before the halftime break with Elkeson's first goal of the game coming from a cross by Oscar.
The Red Eagles scored three more in the second half as Elkeson continued to attack. The former Guangzhou Evergrande forward netted his second goal in the 51st minute off an assist by Hulk then his third in the 59th with the pass this time coming from Wu Lei. Wu sealed the win in stoppage time with his own one-on-one goal against Changchun goalkeeper Wu Yake.
Meanwhile, Yanbian was able to hold Chongqing Dangdai Lifan to a goalless draw on the road at the Chongqing Olympic Sports Center last Sunday, SBS reported.
Yanbian, who remained in the China top-flight this season after finishing ninth last term, is still coached by South Korean manager Park Tae-ha. The team is aiming to have a better finish this season and they will have to rely on import defenders Nikola Petkovic and Richard Guzmics.
